This Friday at the mammoth Urban Nerds & Snowbombing Halloween Special, Scottish rave king and supporter of bass in all its forms, Hostage will headline Room 2 which is hosted by rising London born and bred label, Black Butter Records. Ahead of the Black Butter takeover, we put 10 quick questions to the label to find out what’s in store for Crucifix Lane this Friday and looked over some of their biggest releases yet!

An imprint moving from strength-to-strength, Black Butter supports the grittier end of the ever expanding bass-led scene with a distinct collective of producers under its wing, citing influences as broad as jungle, drum & bass and breakbeat to house, techno and 2-step, as well as ragga, dancehall, reggae and of course grime and dubstep. The crew are showcasing this genre-defying ethos with Woz and Noisses joining RackNRuin & MC Koast (fresh from releasing the massive ‘Sginal’ featuring P Money and Koast), Trouble & Bass collaborators Tomb Crew, dancehall and bass blenders Warrior One & MC Serocee, plus the UK Funky duo responsible for this year’s underground anthem ‘Deep In The Valley’, Rudimental & MC Shantie! Massive rising drum & bass production team Cinematic are ones to watch at the moment and join Black Butter alongside Takura, the stunning live vocalist who’s fresh from an enormous appearance on the smash Chase & Status album ‘No More Idols’, featuring on the Sub Focus co-production ‘Flashing Lights’. Boom!

Beyond recognition, people listen to all styles of music now, shame that only a noble few bother paying for it.

7 ) Who’s your tip for the top? Who should we keen an eye on?

Woz. He can do no wrong. Also, Rudimental… 2012 is set to be a very interesting year for them.

8 ) Anything special planned for Halloween?

Your rave baby. It’s fancy dress right? Going to walk around in a big baby outfit. Chuckie style.

Many more cantankerous dubplates.

It’s a mix double whammy this week as we gear up for our mighty room 2 takeover at fabriclive this Friday! Following on from Dem 2′s garage led selection, we’ve now dropped another edition from Rack N Ruin, who joins the Nerds crew at fabric this Friday with his uncompromising barrage of dubstep, jungle, d&b and all things bass! If this massive mix is anything to go by, Friday night will be off the chain!

His previous remix duties include taking to the buttons for the likes of Nas & Damien Marley, I Blame Coco, Aggro Santos, The Nextmen feat. Groove Armada & Ms. Dynamite, Zero 7, plus The Freestylers. Recent collabs have seen him produce bass led gold for a broad range of vocalists from the legendary Navigator, Basement Jaxx cohort Slarta John and up-and-comer Jessie Ware to long time Toddla T spitter, Serocee. He’s just dropped the banging Righteous EP with our mates at ATG and Black Butter Records and his skills behind the decks saw him smash it at our huge NYE rave, the Nerds 4th Birthday as well as Glade Festival. Soon he hits Secret Garden, Outlook then heads down under for an Australia tour. All in all, our man Rack N Ruin is saying (and doing) a lot!

With a mash-up style that draws influence from the breaks scene, switching this up with jungle, dubstep and all manor of UK bass led sounds, Rack N Ruin is a DJ who truly epitomises Urban Nerds’ love of multi-genre party chaos and we’re extremely hyped to have him on the bill for our fabriclive takeover. Throw Breakage, Plastician, P Money, Marcus Nasty, Shantie, Rattus, Klose and Illaman in the mix and you know Friday night is going to be absolutely sick! For those that aren’t in the know, ATG are the original London graffiti crew, with an infinite squad of soldiers on streets across the capital.
