A DJ to watch out for this year is 16 year old Alfie, Tighten Up Records’ newest recruit who plays his Urban Nerds & fabriclive debut next week. In preparation he’s got his exclusive mix on…

His first EP ‘Treatment’ was supported by the likes of MJ Cole, Doorly, Crookers, Four Tet, Seb Chew and DJ Flight, to name a few. Influenced by garage, dubstep, jungle, DnB as well as old school ska and jazz, he blends all of these sounds and makes them his own. Mary Anne Hobbs said “I can’t believe he’s only 16, what an amazing talent.” His 3rd EP ‘About Midday’, a tribute to Miles Davis is due out on Tighten Up this month and what better way to celebrate than to join Urban Nerds in room 3 at Fabric!

To celebrate, he’s recorded this exclusive mix that perfectly nods to his eclectic musical influences, blending 4×4, 2-step and garage fusions with an overall uplifting house feel that’s a sign of great things to come from this young producer and DJ.

We’re massively hyped to see the return of Toddla T, Jack Beats and Jackmaster and equally very very pleased to see Snowbombing virgins A1 Bassline, Pearson Sound, Redinho and Spencer on board.

However, most of all we’re throwing our gun fingers up for the first ever Snowbombing set from the mighty Marcus Nasty and we can officially say that he’s the first act revealed to play the Urban Nerds party out at the festival! Joining Marcus will be Rattus, Klose and 3 other huge headline acts which will be announced next week on this very blog!

Last weekend the Urban Nerds crew was out in full force as we returned to XOYO in Shoreditch with a huge line-up of dubstep, UK bass, garage and funky pioneers!

Headed up by the legendary Zinc, we took over the ground floor and basement with a string of massive sets from the likes of Marcus Nasty, Scott Garcia, Rattus, Klose, Hot City and our competition winners BAD Content! Not forgetting the live highlights…two electric performances (some of the best we’ve had at Nerds in a while) from the Engine-EarZ Experiment and grime party starters, Newham Generals! It’s been a while since D Double E, Footsie and Tubby have hit the stage at Nerds and they came back with a bang last weekend!

As you can see, we’ve dropped the final set times for tonight. There are literally a handful of £12 advance tickets left. They WILL sell out in a couple of hours, you can grab them here.

This Saturday Marcus Nasty takes over room 2 for Urban Nerds at XOYO, presenting his favourite underground talent from the realms of UK funky, grime and garage, with the likes of garage scene legend, Scott Garcia! To get things warmed up, on Wednesday 16th March Marcus put together a very special extended edition of his weekly Rinse FM show, with 4 hours of ‘Marcus Nasty Presents’ showcasing some of the sick DJ talent that’ll be hitting XOYO!

Urban Nerds residents Rattus Rattus & Klose One were representing with a very sick guest mix on the show alongside more goodness from Scott Garcia, Sunday Roast & Jook 10, Weeksy, Reepo & Jay Rusto and the mighty Maxwell D! Playing for half an hour each, Klose went in deep with a house and funky led assault, including some crazy edits and remixes that got the studio skanking! Rattus follows with an eclectic bass mash-up of bone-shakers and watch out for the guest vocals from Saturday’s special guest Maxwell D, who jumps on to host the set!

Scott’s taking to the decks in room 2 as part of a very special squad of DJs and MCs that’s been curated by Rinse FM’s Marcus Nasty, considered by many to be one of the godfathers of the UK funky scene that’s infiltrating all corners of British dance music at rapid speed! Scott Garica is without doubt one of the pioneers of the UK garage scene, known by many for his genre defining 1997 smash ‘It’s a London Thing’ which became London’s unofficial anthem for years to come, breaking into the national charts and selling over 30,000 units. Soon after Scott set up his own label, signing a wealth of music influential scene stalwarts such as Oxide & Neutrino, DJ Luck & MC Neat, Shy Cookie and Genius Cru.

Ahead of his room 2 takeover at XOYO on Saturday 26th March, we’ve got hold of a heavy live recording of Marcus Nasty in the mix, live at the SOME Night first birthday last year! The set was captured as part of the Red Bull Music Academy Radio On The Floor! series of live recordings that cover some of London’s finest underground club sets.
