Thanks to the speedy people over at The Grime Report there’s some energetic footage from last night’s much hyped Eskimo Dance at Proud 2 online already! From the endless list of Facebook and Twitter coverage, last night sounds epic. Great to see such a turn out of MCs and one of the scene’s infamous stage shows. Judging by the video, this was the biggest grime takeover of its kind for a long while. Still waiting for the Nerds crew that headed down to surface from their hangovers for the full report but in the meantime…

Dubstep, grime and UK beat camp True Tiger are increasingly set to become an underground powerhouse destined for huge cross-genre hype on the mainstream, churning out deep club friendly bangers that can’t help but appeal to the radio crew too. Following on from the enormous ‘Slang Like This’ their latest incarnation ‘In The Air’ featuring Professor Green and Maverick Sabre is no different and most definitely a banger you need to know about!

British rap sensation Pro Green joins the soulful tones of one of the most exciting UK artists of the year, Maverick Sabre, on this instantly gripping beat that in typical True Tiger fashion has a hearty bass-fueled core. This time the Tiger crew have built in house-led synths for an epic quality that’s sure to see this one on it’s way to big things. The S.P.Y drum & bass remix is set to secure a lot of love in the raves (it’s a lot) whilst the original is definitely one of our favourite numbers of 2011 so far.

Pre-order the 5 track ‘In The Air’ EP on iTunes here and check the official video and the massive S.P.Y. remix below…

The 5th and final mix in our series of Urban Nerds 4th Birthday bangers comes from original Urban Nerds resident and supporter of all things bass, Rattus Rattus, as he gears up for a mammoth set at Scala with partner in crime, Klose One!

The 5th and final mix in our series of Urban Nerds 4th Birthday bangers comes from original Urban Nerds resident and supporter of all things bass, Rattus Rattus, as he gears up for a mammoth set at Scala with partner in crime, Klose One!

Since joining the Nerds crew way back when in 2007, Rattus has developed a distinct, no-limits and genre crossing style of mash-up party sounds, with a healthy injection of bass. Whether dubstep, electro, garage, grime or funky, he always hits the spot with a unique style that’s been known to encompass rare samples, the odd indie anthem, deeper, darker beats and of course a trademark Prodigy drop here and there!

This bass explosion has seen him take to the decks for some of the UK’s biggest underground promoters, with regular appearances for the likes of Bigger Than Barry, Under The Radar, Vagazbondz and Reclaim The Dancefloor, in a slew of world-class clubs such as Fabric, Matter, Sankeys, Motion and Ministry of Sound. Moving cross-country, Rattus has also touched the White Isle, with various Ibiza sets, plus European excursions to Snowbombing, Outlook Festival, Rumble Festival and beyond. With highlights that include the mighty Glastonbury, Ibiza pool parties and epic warehouse madness from Nerds and Bigger Than Barry, Ratty has most definitely landed on the bass circuit!

To celebrate this journey and of course our 4th Birthday, this ‘Way Back Then’ mix looks to some of the biggest rave starters that have kicked-off at Urban Nerds throughout the past 4 years, with Rattus reaching for dubstep classics from the likes of Rusko, Skream, Benga, Caspa, Cotti and Coki and going further back to timeless garage anthems. There’s also a healthy dose of grime, with some of our favourite producers and MCs.

It’s all there! Check the track listing below, get your free download on and if you haven’t already, it’s time to grab your ticket to the massive Urban Nerds 4th Birthday at Scala where Rattus joins Klose One alongside Ms Dynamite, DJ EZ, Roska, Netsky, Doorly, MJ Cole, Redlight and many, many more! BOOM!

In the run up to London's UpRise anti-racism festival, long time Nerds fam Ordio Kid has put together a heavy warm-up mix ahead of his set at this year's event!

In the run up to London’s UpRise anti-racism festival, long time Nerds fam Ordio Kid has put together a heavy warm-up mix ahead of his set at this year’s event!

This tasty blend of grime, electro, dubstep and funky vibes is laced with the latest rave smasher from Redlight, ‘Source 16′ as well as the dubbed out Jacques Greene remix of recent Katy B release ‘Broken Record’. In true Ordio Kid fashion these meet some old skool garage beats & blips and classic dubstep from Skream, topped off with a grimey edge courtesy of Firecamp and Royal T.

Decent mix to adorn your iPods and laptops ahead of the weekend and make sure you get down to this year’s UpRise: ‘Born out of the ashes of the former Rise festival, UpRise is a testimony of people power! Put together by a collective of individuals and organisations that believed passionately that the message of anti-racism still needs a voice.’

To mark his recent Australian tour, London bass, grime and electro merchant Mumdance has put together a heavy hour long mix. We thought we’d share it with you lot ahead of his set at the Urban Nerds 4th Birthday at Scala!

Mumdance treated Australia’s Triple J Radio to his usual eclectic mash of gritty grime instrumentals, bass and electro, kicking it all off with some house & techno with bubbly 2-step touches and rave worthy bleeps and blips from the likes of Instra:Mental, Canblaster, Dark Sky and LV. As we’ve come to expect from Mumdance, it’s not your average bass invasion but a juicy cross-genre blend! The Nerds crew can’t wait to catch him behind the decks at Scala!

On the ball as ever, VICE recently launched Noisey.com ‘a video-driven music discovery platform, documenting the most talented emerging musicians from around the world.’ In and amongst some very inspiring footage of musicians from over 10 different countries, we came across this sick, slick footage of one of grime’s biggest rising starts and Nerds favourite, Tempa T!

After jumping on tour with Temps last year and heading to Edinburgh, the Noisey crew have captured this up-close and personal footage of the ‘Next Hype’ MC and Chase & Status collaborator, performing to a load of very eager Scots…proof that the reach of the grime scene is in many respects greater than ever through the pull of the genre’s select main players like Temps.

The first video in the series, ‘Meet Tempa T’ sees the East London export talk frankly on his roots, what kicked him all off, the motivation behind one of the hypest MCs in the game, as well as setting the record straight on the true meaning of a PAR. Three other videos showcase his biggest tunes to date, with massive live performances on ‘Next Hype’, ‘I-Par’ and ‘Boy Off’. Grime heads will know it’s not often live footage of this quality gets out there so lap it up…NEXT HYPE!

Watch Part 1 below and catch the rest here

This Saturday the Newham Generals perform their first live show at Urban Nerds in years, with grime legends D Double E, Footsie and Rinse FM’s DJ Tubby getting set to blow the roof at XOYO!

The Newham Generals aka D Double E and Footsie are grime scene veterans and are among the most respected underground acts in the UK today, with a career spanning three decades, defined by anthems like ‘Frontline’ and ‘Prangman’. Their notoriety recently saw them collaborate with Breakage (protégé of drum & bass legend Shy FX) to release dubstep banger ‘Hard’. Today, as grime MCs soften their music in light of renewed mainstream interest, the Generals stand firm – continually versioning the biggest underground beats and working with some of the biggest and most credible producers in the UK!

Ahead of Saturday night, we’ve caught up with one half of the crew, Footsie to get hyped for their massive live show at XOYO, plus get some talk about boat parties? It’s all in here…

If you haven’t clocked Spooky’s ‘Spartan’ rhythm yet, you need to wake up! The grime producer and DJ who joined Nerds at our Halloween rave last year dropped his Spartan EP on leading underground grime imprint No Hats No Hoods back in November 2010 and it’s been building momentum ever since, peaking with an immense vocal assault headed-up by one of London’s biggest up and coming MCs, Kozzie.

The Spartan Remix sees Kozzie back on it alongside Marger, Merky Ace, Rival, Ego and Scrufizzer, on one of the most hyped grime anthems we’ve heard in a while, with an unforgiving dirty bass line and a fast paced, take-no-prisoners verbal onslaught on the mic! This was one of the scene’s classic bangers in 2010. The remix, out 28th March on No Hats No Hoods means Spartan is here to stay, set to blow up raves up and down the country! Check out the fresh video which dropped today and watch out for Kozzie at the massive Urban Nerds 4th Birthday when he takes to the mic for Elijah & Skilliam!

CHECK THE INTERVIEW!

You’ve been championing underground British sounds like grime and dubstep from day one, what’s the secret to Plastician’s lasting hype?

I think just keeping on top of stuff going on around you, keeping your ear out for new talent and also just keeping it diverse. A lot of people stick to one style whereas I like to be more versatile.

There are only a handful of DJs recognised as front-runners in both the grime and dubstep scenes, how have you kept that broad appeal?

Again I’d probably put this down to keeping an open mind and working with loads of different artists. I still work closely with a lot of grime artists and also play a lot of grime in my DJ sets so it keeps people from both scenes checking for what I’m doing.

How has the scene changed for you over the years?

For starters it’s got much bigger and definitely global now. I’d say this year is the first year we will see ‘dubstep’ acts from abroad coming over to the UK and having their own headline shows.

Who’s top of the game for you at the moment?

Wow… I don’t know! I’m still always excited to hear what Joker is up to so I’ll probably say him. Flux Pavilion is a talented guy too. I’m liking his melodies and reckon he might surprise a few people this year.

Are there signs of any new sounds set to rise from the underground anytime soon?

I can’t see any right now other than the obvious ones still bubbling away like this Juke sound that Swamp 81 are pushing, as well as this darker stream of UK Funky which sounds pretty cool too.

You’re playing for Urban Nerds at Snowbombing. Is this your first time at the festival?

Yep – first time and very excited about it too!

Are you going to be hitting the slopes?

I originally was going to spend the week there but unfortunately all my ski and snowboard pals left it too late to book up so I reckon it might just be a non slope session for me!

Which acts are you most looking forward to catching at Snowbombing 2011?

So many. I’m genuinely excited about playing with Rodigan actually – I’ve seen him kill it so many times but never in this kind of ‘holiday’ setting where everyone who’s at the gig is also on holiday. I’m sure that will just cause the vibes to go through the roof!

What can the mountain ravers expect to hear from Plastician?

Well, my usual mix of grime and dubstep with the occasional bit of humour thrown in I reckon! But who knows…I never know what I’m going to drop until I get behind the decks so people will have to come and have a listen!

Urban Nerds are returning as an official club partner to Snowbombing for the third year running, taking over The Arena in Mayrhofen on Wednesday 6th April with a massive bass-fuelled night headed-up by the legendary selector, David Rodigan! Rodigan will be joined by the mighty Toddla T, Serocee and one of dubstep’s finest, Plastician, plus DJ sets from the Nerds resident squad Rattus Rattus and Klose One! Volvo Snowbombing takes places from April 4th – 9th 2011 with an awesome avalanche of live acts and DJs that includes The Prodigy, Fat Boy Slim, Pendulum, Chase & Status, Magnetic Man, Sub Focus, Shy FX, Joker, Ms Dynamite and a lot, lot more!

Tickets are almost sold out so book with the Nerds crew now! You’ll get a free, exclusive Urban Nerds x Snowbombing jumper worth £49.99!
