A DJ to watch out for this year is 16 year old Alfie, Tighten Up Records’ newest recruit who plays his Urban Nerds & fabriclive debut next week. In preparation he’s got his exclusive mix on…

His first EP ‘Treatment’ was supported by the likes of MJ Cole, Doorly, Crookers, Four Tet, Seb Chew and DJ Flight, to name a few. Influenced by garage, dubstep, jungle, DnB as well as old school ska and jazz, he blends all of these sounds and makes them his own. Mary Anne Hobbs said “I can’t believe he’s only 16, what an amazing talent.” His 3rd EP ‘About Midday’, a tribute to Miles Davis is due out on Tighten Up this month and what better way to celebrate than to join Urban Nerds in room 3 at Fabric!

To celebrate, he’s recorded this exclusive mix that perfectly nods to his eclectic musical influences, blending 4×4, 2-step and garage fusions with an overall uplifting house feel that’s a sign of great things to come from this young producer and DJ.

The mighty Silkie & Quest bring their bone shaking shaking dubs, plus the stunning, beautifully crafted deep bass frequencies of one of the scene’s rising producers, Phaeleh. Support comes from Lost, Soap Dodgers, biome, Sleeper plus Pack London and Vagabondz residents, Slugz & Boyson! This is the last in the epic first FOUND series that’s hit Hidden this Autumn and is definitely not one to be missed! On Tuesday 22nd November the Notting Hill Arts Club welcomes a fresh mid week addition to wash your post weekend comedown away and it’s quite rightly called Paradise!

Running twice a month, the launch heralds a new night with an ethos of ‘if it’s good we’ll play it’ mashing up everything from hip-hop and indie to our favourite bass sounds. November is headed up by the Dirty Canvas and No Hats No Hoods top dog, Reecha, bringing his usual blend of grime instrumentals, deeper dubstep and forward thinking bass bombs. He’s joined by residents representing the fast rising Audio Doughnuts label and Paradise regular Wheela. At just £3 ’till 3am, we can’t think of a better Tuesday night in LDN (swear down) so if you’re West, this is you. Get involved!

Scottish rave king and supporter of bass in all its forms, Hostage has put a excellent mix together in the the lead up to our Halloween rave!

He gets set to headline Room 2 which is hosted by rising London born and bred label, Black Butter Records. Flying in from Munich to head up our annual massive Urban Nerds Carnival warm up party this year are tropical bass duo, Schlachthofbronx! We grabbed a few words from the crew ahead of their XOYO debut to find out what the bass crazed party producers have got in store and how to pronounce that tricky name!

After years honing their distinct party sound that draws on a multitude of global beats spanning dancehall, dubstep, Baile Funk, rave, soca and a whole lot of bass, Schlachthofbronx have made a name for themselves playing worldwide alongside the likes of Major Lazer and Buraka Som Sistema, including supporting M.I.A. on her 2010 European tour! This year they dropped ‘Nasty Bass’, their debut EP for Diplo’s world-renowned Mad Decent label, following up with the acclaimed ‘Chambacu Remix EP’ that features tropical moombahton flavours re-fixed by the likes of Smutlee, Solo and Toy Selecta! Add to that a string of releases on Man Recordings, the label dubbed as ‘Rio de Janeiro’s permanent mission on the European mainland’ plus an endless list of festival dates and you can be damn sure Schlachthofbronx are the perfect bass merchants to bring the Carnival vibes to XOYO for what promises to be a true homage to the proper Caribbean and South American tropical rave at Urban Nerds this August!

Give us a little background behind Schlachthofbronx…

Hi, we’re Benedikt and Jakob from Munich, Germany. We both DJ’d for a long time and decided to join forces in the beginning of 2008 and started to make tracks.

Where does the Bronx crew draw influence from, musically speaking?

It’s a lot, lots of hip-hop obviously, Miami bass, New Orleans bounce, Bootybass, that whole  dancehall-reaggae-soca-carnival thing, techno, funk, dub…

Can you explain your name? It’s a dyslexic’s nightmare!

Schlachthofbronx is basically just the nickname of the quarter we both live in, the meat packing district (=schlachthof) of Munich. Other neighbourhoods of the city or nearby towns have parallel nicknames, Fürstenfeldbruck for example is called Fürstenfeldbrooklyn by some people.

Describe your sound in one sentence…

We make bass heavy dance music that makes people dance dutty!

What can the Nerds crew expect from your set?

We play LOTS of new tracks and custom made edits, we change tempo and genre a lot and always try to have a nice party together with the crowd.

What does Carnival mean to you?

German carnival sucks so we prefer the Caribbean way…trying to bring some ‘carnival vibes’ to the people every weekend.

Your signed to Mad Decent, how has this changed your output?

We did 2 EPs on Mad Decent so far which is great, met lots of nice people through them. After the first release we did our first North America tour earlier this year.

Tell us what Urban Nerds means to you.

As a general expression it’s that type of people we love to work with. Nerdy but knowing what they do! Also it’s that bunch of Londonian people who should be ready to do a lil t-shirt exchange since we want one of those new shirts, in exchange for our brand new Schlachthofbronx rags.

Do you have anything special in store for the 27^th?

As we said we got a lot of new stuff, and also a handful special carnival edits. Gonna be great!

If you could collaborate with any MC who would it be?

Busta Rhymes or Ms Dynamite.

What’s in store for the future?

Next releases will be on Mixpak (soca inspired tracks, dropping august 9th) and another EP on Man Recordings. Also we started to work on our new album.

What’s your favourite word?

Jakob: “Wicked!”

It’s a mix double whammy this week as we gear up for our mighty room 2 takeover at fabriclive this Friday! Following on from Dem 2′s garage led selection, we’ve now dropped another edition from Rack N Ruin, who joins the Nerds crew at fabric this Friday with his uncompromising barrage of dubstep, jungle, d&b and all things bass! If this massive mix is anything to go by, Friday night will be off the chain!

His previous remix duties include taking to the buttons for the likes of Nas & Damien Marley, I Blame Coco, Aggro Santos, The Nextmen feat. Groove Armada & Ms. Dynamite, Zero 7, plus The Freestylers. Recent collabs have seen him produce bass led gold for a broad range of vocalists from the legendary Navigator, Basement Jaxx cohort Slarta John and up-and-comer Jessie Ware to long time Toddla T spitter, Serocee. He’s just dropped the banging Righteous EP with our mates at ATG and Black Butter Records and his skills behind the decks saw him smash it at our huge NYE rave, the Nerds 4th Birthday as well as Glade Festival. Soon he hits Secret Garden, Outlook then heads down under for an Australia tour. All in all, our man Rack N Ruin is saying (and doing) a lot!

With a mash-up style that draws influence from the breaks scene, switching this up with jungle, dubstep and all manor of UK bass led sounds, Rack N Ruin is a DJ who truly epitomises Urban Nerds’ love of multi-genre party chaos and we’re extremely hyped to have him on the bill for our fabriclive takeover. Throw Breakage, Plastician, P Money, Marcus Nasty, Shantie, Rattus, Klose and Illaman in the mix and you know Friday night is going to be absolutely sick! Rack N Ruin has summed up the hype nicely with this mix. We’ve said enough on the matter, get your download on – you won’t be disappointed!
