T.Williams makes his Urban Nerds debut this Friday, joining us in room three at fabriclive with his distinct blends of bass, funky, garage and 2-step inspired breed of UK house! To celebrate, we’ve got hold of a limited vinyl press of what we feel was one of T’s finest moments in 2011, the banging remix of Breach’s ‘Fatherless’.

Williams is one of the most anticipated DJs of 2012, having wowed ravers throughout the past 2 years with flawless late night blends of bass, garage and 4×4 inspired UK house sets that remain truly genreless but never fail to start a party! The Deep Teknologi label head rounded off an incredible year last year with a must-listen FACT mix. Let alone his original productions way back when we called him Dread D, need-to-know releases include this forever re-loaded ‘Fatherless’ remix, alongside recent Local Action release ‘Broke Broke’ and our personal favourite, 2010’s massive jazzy vocal house banger, ‘Heartbeat’. This man will move from strength-to-strength this year but first, watch him blow the roof off room 3 with Urban Nerds this week.

Catch T.Williams in room three at fabriclive alongside Marcus Nasty & Rankin, Slimzee, Rattus, Klose and Alfie!

To win a pair of tickets to party with us on Friday for FREE and have a copy of this great release sent through your letterbox, email your name and full contact details to info [at] urban-nerds.com | Competition closes at 5pm on Thursday 19th January – winner will be picked at random and notified tomorrow evening. Good luck!

Thanks to the speedy people over at The Grime Report there’s some energetic footage from last night’s much hyped Eskimo Dance at Proud 2 online already! From the endless list of Facebook and Twitter coverage, last night sounds epic. Great to see such a turn out of MCs and one of the scene’s infamous stage shows. Judging by the video, this was the biggest grime takeover of its kind for a long while. Still waiting for the Nerds crew that headed down to surface from their hangovers for the full report but in the meantime…

A DJ to watch out for this year is 16 year old Alfie, Tighten Up Records’ newest recruit who plays his Urban Nerds & fabriclive debut next week. In preparation he’s got his exclusive mix on…

His first EP ‘Treatment’ was supported by the likes of MJ Cole, Doorly, Crookers, Four Tet, Seb Chew and DJ Flight, to name a few. Influenced by garage, dubstep, jungle, DnB as well as old school ska and jazz, he blends all of these sounds and makes them his own. Mary Anne Hobbs said “I can’t believe he’s only 16, what an amazing talent.” His 3rd EP ‘About Midday’, a tribute to Miles Davis is due out on Tighten Up this month and what better way to celebrate than to join Urban Nerds in room 3 at Fabric!

To celebrate, he’s recorded this exclusive mix that perfectly nods to his eclectic musical influences, blending 4×4, 2-step and garage fusions with an overall uplifting house feel that’s a sign of great things to come from this young producer and DJ.

This Friday Hidden’s Autumn FOUND series continues as the Vauxhall party starters join forces with Days Like That to present: Heritage. Set to be an exploration of UK garage, 2-step, four-to-the-floor beats and today’s bass-led incarnations of the classic sound, it’s without doubt the most exciting garage infused night London’s seen in a long while!

Joining the dots between London’s rich tapestry of pioneering garage-influenced dance styles, Heritage will cover the sound music from past to present. Part of the Tuff Jam partnership that first pioneered the UK garage sound in the mid 90s, Matt ‘Jam’ Lamont will be playing a special ‘Underground Frequencies’ set – a homage to the ground-breaking Tuff Jam compilation of the same name. Both of the legendary Groove Chronicles duo – El B and Noodles – will be dropping their own sets of classic garage vibes and showing why their classic productions influenced the formative sounds of acts like Burial and Skream.

In another legendary reference, East London’s original grime pioneer Slimzee will be taking us back to a golden era when Dizzee and Wiley were regularly spitting on his dubplate-heavy sets. Moshi Moshi’s Hot City and two-step dons Dem 2, the force behind the defining scene anthem ‘Destiny’, are also on the bill.

The heads behind one of 2011’s most forward thinking bass labels, Keysound label heads Dusk & Blackdown will be dusting off some of their favourite records for a special Roots of Dubstep set, while Local Action’s T. Williams also goes back to the old school with a rare garage set.

Adding yet more prestige to the party, Scott Garcia and DJ Para from underground legends DEA Project bring their Multi:ply brand to Heritage – with a line-up that includes dubstep forefathers Horsepower Productions, future garage champion Whistla, dark garage hero Narrows and Scott and Para themselves.

This Friday at the mammoth Urban Nerds & Snowbombing Halloween Special, Scottish rave king and supporter of bass in all its forms, Hostage will headline Room 2 which is hosted by rising London born and bred label, Black Butter Records. Ahead of the Black Butter takeover, we put 10 quick questions to the label to find out what’s in store for Crucifix Lane this Friday and looked over some of their biggest releases yet!

An imprint moving from strength-to-strength, Black Butter supports the grittier end of the ever expanding bass-led scene with a distinct collective of producers under its wing, citing influences as broad as jungle, drum & bass and breakbeat to house, techno and 2-step, as well as ragga, dancehall, reggae and of course grime and dubstep. The crew are showcasing this genre-defying ethos with Woz and Noisses joining RackNRuin & MC Koast (fresh from releasing the massive ‘Sginal’ featuring P Money and Koast), Trouble & Bass collaborators Tomb Crew, dancehall and bass blenders Warrior One & MC Serocee, plus the UK Funky duo responsible for this year’s underground anthem ‘Deep In The Valley’, Rudimental & MC Shantie! Massive rising drum & bass production team Cinematic are ones to watch at the moment and join Black Butter alongside Takura, the stunning live vocalist who’s fresh from an enormous appearance on the smash Chase & Status album ‘No More Idols’, featuring on the Sub Focus co-production ‘Flashing Lights’. Boom!

1 ) Can you list the artists that you have released records for?

RackNRuin, Woz, Warrior One, Noisses, Marco Del Horno v DJ Swerve, Tomb Crew, P Money, Durrty Goodz, Boogaloo Crew, Smalltown DJs, Kill Light, Serocee, Rubi Dan, Navigator, Man Like Me and more…

2 ) What are your individual musical tastes/influences?

Literally anything, as long as it connects.

3 ) What’s been your biggest tune to date and who was it by?

Marco Del Horno v DJ Swerve – Ho! Riddim ft. P Money

4 ) How would you describe the music that you put out in one sentence?

Bass heavy with eclectic beats and vocal features.

5 ) What is an Urban Nerd to you?

…!

6 ) How have you seen the music scene you represent change over the last few years?

Beyond recognition, people listen to all styles of music now, shame that only a noble few bother paying for it.

7 ) Who’s your tip for the top? Who should we keen an eye on?

Woz. He can do no wrong. Also, Rudimental… 2012 is set to be a very interesting year for them.

8 ) Anything special planned for Halloween?

Your rave baby. It’s fancy dress right? Going to walk around in a big baby outfit. Chuckie style.

9 ) What’s planned for the future?

Many more cantankerous dubplates.

10 ) Any shouts?

Massive shout to all the supporters, you make it all possible lol.

Where can people find out more?

www.black-butter.co.uk

On Tuesday 22nd November the Notting Hill Arts Club welcomes a fresh mid week addition to wash your post weekend comedown away and it’s quite rightly called Paradise!

Running twice a month, the launch heralds a new night with an ethos of ‘if it’s good we’ll play it’ mashing up everything from hip-hop and indie to our favourite bass sounds. November is headed up by the Dirty Canvas and No Hats No Hoods top dog, Reecha, bringing his usual blend of grime instrumentals, deeper dubstep and forward thinking bass bombs. He’s joined by residents representing the fast rising Audio Doughnuts label and Paradise regular Wheela. At just £3 ’till 3am, we can’t think of a better Tuesday night in LDN (swear down) so if you’re West, this is you. Get involved!
