DMC London Heats | Jazz Cafe | Tonight

The DMC world DJ Championships head to the Jazz Cafe later this afternoon to play out the London 2011 heats. With new sponsors Rane and Serato now onboard 2011 sees the DMCs stepping into the digital revolution for the first time, now allowing Serato and Traktor to be used in the routines. This should not only hot things up this year but will certainly bring a whole new level of musicality. Of course there are some purists who are not happy with the decision to include the element of Serato, but it has to be said that in order for the DMCs to adapt and keep up with the times, and the fact that Serato is such a widely used medium these days, that it seems like a logical step to take to keep this competition fresh and inline with currently technological trends. The crowd and critics booed in 1986 when DJ Cheese pulled out the first set with scratching and even Olrando Voorn, who was a competitor at the event complained to the judges. Look where we are now!

Don’t forget the UK DJ final at Scala on the 14th July, and the World DJ finals at Indigo in the O2 arena on the 6th + 7th October. For more info on DMC click here.
